Reyes wants team to stay aggressive

SWU vs. USPF

Opening day winner Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma seeks to keep their momentum going when they battle the debuting University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers today in the 2018 Cesafi men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Cobras stung the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats, 87-53, during the season’s opening game last Saturday.

Head coach Mike Reyes relayed that he liked the ball movement that his team showed over the weekend and is urging his wards to show more of the same unselfishness in today’s match.

“We had our film showing yesterday (Sunday) to affirm the ball movement that we had against CIT-U. Against USPF, we have to be able to attack their trapping defense. We must not be contented with just breaking it but we have to attack and get inside their zone defense,” shared Reyes.

He added that his team needed to “maintain our discipline on defense” in order to sustain the momentum that they gathered from their first win.

USPF head coach Brian Jereza, meanwhile, was more guarded with the team’s gameplan against SWU-Phinma but hoped to give fans a great game.

“It’s a privilege to face a good and veteran coach Mike Reyes. I hope we can keep up with SWU and give the Cesafi crowd a good game,” said Jereza.

The second game will feature two teams that lost by huge margins over the weekend — the CIT-U Wildcats and the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors.

USC got blasted by the University of Cebu Webmasters, 50-72, last Sunday.
