THIS year’s University Week of the Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) officially kicked off with a bang yesterday at the school’s premises at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.

With the additional 400 students enrolled in Grade 11 in the senior high school, the annual intramurals of CDU has become more fun, according to the school’s president and chairman of the board Dr. Philip Anthony Larrazabal.

“Compared to last year, our intramurals is livelier. The intramurals got bigger and more fun,” said Larrazabal.

Teams from the college of arts and sciences, allied medical sciences, dentistry, medicine, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, rehabilitative sciences, and graduate school, participated in the opening parade yesterday.

“I think this year’s intramurals is the best so far because the teams are more cheerful, the students are more enthusiastic, and the attendance is very large,” added Larrazabal.

There are seven sporting events lined up for the rest of the week. These are basketball, men’s and women’s volleyball, swimming, soccer, flag football, track and field, and chess. There were also academic and cultural events that started earlier this week.

So far the College of Rehabilitative Sciences topped the solo song and dance competition while the College of Nursing clinched the title for the Miss Intramurals 2018 courtesy of second-year student Josefina Isabel Gullas.

According to Dr. Enrico Gruet, the vice president for academic affairs of CDU, the school is aiming to develop competitive teams it can field in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi). He said winners of the intramurals may be the basis of choosing athletes for their varsity teams.

“As a Cesafi member school, we already in-charged people to handle our sports teams to make our students more involved in the Cesafi,” said Gruet.
