EXPECT a hero’s welcome for Cebuana Margielyn Didal when she returns to Cebu from her stint in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.
The 19-year-old Didal won the Philippines’ fourth gold medal in the quadrennial meet after topping the women’s street skateboarding event at the Jakabaring Sports Complex in Palembang on Wednesday.
Cebu City Councilor Mary Ann delos Santos called for an emergency meeting with barangay officials of Lahug headed by Barangay Captain Hazel Ann Mana to talk about the preparation of a hero’s welcome for the Lahuganon Didal.
“Margielyn has a very strong determination, focus, faith and guts. She really deserved a grand acknowledgment,” said Delos Santos, the former barangay captain of Lahug.
Mana said that they will also pass a resolution, commending Didal’s achievement. The same resolution will be passed by Delos Santos during the City Council regular session on Tuesday next week.
“Out of excitement, we are confused as to how we will welcome her. Many suggestions from the other officials sprouted” Mana said. “But this I am sure of, Barangay Lahug will make a resolution commending her for her achievement.”
Aside from the bonuses Didal will receive from the government, the Philippine Olympic Committee and the Siklab Foundation for her gold medal haul, Delos Santos said that Cebu City Councilor Margot Osmeña will also give the Cebuana skateboarder an additional P50,000 reward.
