Strong and constant

Christian Ian Sy is our version of a gentleman in waiting.

“My heart is burning with pride and immense happiness because today my dream for my brothers and sisters in both of my Dragon Boat teams turned into reality, and that is for them to be recognized for their talent and anything that they can offer,” the 30-year-old who received the Modern-day Hero Award by the Cebu City government for being the lead coach of Pads Adaptive Dragon Boat Racing Team last Aug. 27.

“This recognition is not just for us, but for all what we represent—the PWDs are strong and capable.”

The Pads Adaptive Dragonboat Racing Team is the first cross disability team in the Philippines who won two-time Champion in 400 meters Paradragon Championships in Hong Kong in 2017 and in 2018, which has included persons with disabilities or PWD.

Sy has also led the Cebu Pink Paddlers Dragonboat Team—the first Breast Cancer Survivors Dragon Boat team in the Philippines who won in two gold medals in 500 meters and 200 meters in Taiwan last October 2017.

It also recently won in Singapore as Champion in 200-meter Cancer Survivors Open Category.

“Our action will define what we are, what we will be, and what we will become.

Time and circumstances will test our morale.

Our ultimate goal is to make the voiceless be heard and the weak strengthened by empowering and inspiring others with our passion and compassion.

We are all endowed with a title, and a responsibility, to God and humanity,” he continues.

And a pretty boy at that—as he shows us, though the textile has been updated via rainbows of colors and pinpoints of sparkle, the return of the classic suit.

Nothing signifies the approach of new things quite like this time-honored piece.

“In recent years we have been greatly influenced by K-Pop’s fashion. There is no denying that their sense of and taste in fashion is awesome. My fashion sense depends on my mood and occasion that I am attending, but I always make sure I wear clothes that I’m most comfortable and look dapper,” he describes his fashion sense.
