AROUND 300 hardcore cyclists are expected to test their mettle in two separate racing events lined up for the 2018 Valencia Mountain Bike Festival on October 7 and October 14 in Valencia, Negros Oriental.
The biggest mountain bike event to happen in Negros Oriental is made possible in coordination with ONEnduro, the organizer of the Philippine Enduro Series, the Dumaguete City Hosts Lions Club and the Valencia local government.
Valencia is a neighbouring town of Dumaguete City which is known not just for its pristine falls, sulfur vents, and hot springs but it has also become a destination for thrill seekers for its hidden trails perfect for mountain biking and downhill competitions.
The cross-country racing event is scheduled on October 7 while the enduro race which will serve as the seventh leg of the Philippine Enduro Series organized by ONEnduro, headed by its president Nestor Santa Maria III and managing director Ione Baron-Mejia, will be on October 14.
The 2018 Valencia Mountain Bike Festival is also co-organized by Valencia Mayor Edgar Teves and Dumaguete City Hosts Lions Club’s president Nacho Escaño.
Since Valencia and Dumaguete is just a 40-minute boat ride from Santander, located in the south most part of Cebu, Baron-Mejia, one of the organizers of the weeklong event is expecting a huge number of Cebuano riders joining the competition.
“We are expecting a lot of Cebuanos that will be joining our event especially in the Enduro event which has different age categories,” said Baron-Mejia.
The Enduro event will feature categories in the elite, 40 and above, 30-39 years old, 20-29, 19 and below, and the women’s category while the cross country event will have 19-29 years old, 30-39 years old, 40 and above, women’s and 18 and below categories.
