The University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers grabbed their third straight win after defeating the struggling Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras, 68-49, in a Cesafi men’s basketball game on Thursday night at the Cebu Coliseum.
Michael Maestre led the Green Lancers with 18 points, six rebounds and two blocks while Rey Suerte flirted with a rare triple-double with 12 points, eight boards and eight assists as UV now has a 3-2 (win-loss) record after dropping the first two games of the season. SWU-Phinma fell to 1-4.
UV led by as many as 21, 42-21, but SWU-Phinma pulled to within eight, 41-49, after a short jumper by Dominic de Lara.
The Green Lancers had too much firepower as a fastbreak lay-in by Maestre and an and-one by Suerte put the game out of reach, 63-48, with 2:07 remaining.
