UC continues to rule Cesafi table tennis

DEFENDING champion University of Cebu (UC) – Main remained the top team in the 2018 Cesafi table tennis tournament after putting up a dominating performance in all the categories played over the weekend at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

Aside from winning the team events, the Webmasters also reigned supreme in the singles event with Kent Edwin Abellanosa topping the men’s competition and Diana Oliverio ruling the distaff side.

Abellanosa beat University of San Carlos’ Rogelian Rom to the title while Oliverio won the crown over teammate Athena Comaingking.

“It was a close fight since both of us knew each other’s techniques. I’m so thankful and blessed for my teammates and my coach’s support and for the guidance from God,” Said Oliverio, a third-year Education major student of UC-Main.

In the high school category, leading the list of winners for UC-Main was Eljay Dan Tormis, who topped the boys’ competition.

Teammate Leslie Cambonga claimed the title in the girls’ side.

The Webmasters, perennial champions in table tennis, also ruled the men’s, women’s, boys’, and girls’ team competitions.

Meanwhile, UC athletics director Jessica Honoridez was elated with the turnout of competitors this season.

“The Cesafi table tennis has been in its 18th consecutive year as a tournament and it is a success especially this season, where there was an increase of teams that joined,” she said.

Last year, there were only four teams that joined while this season, eight teams participated, resulting to extended playing hours at the venue.
