As part of their corporate social responsibility and in celebration of the mall’s 60th anniversary, SM Supermalls held a simultaneous distribution of 60,000 shoes to the different public schools in the country.

In Cebu, employee volunteers from SM City Cebu and SM City Consolacion distributed 2,000 shoes to elementary students from Buhisan Elementary School, Buhisan National High School, Toong Integrated School, and Pamutan Integrated School. Another 2,000 shoes were happily received by grade school students from Mambaling Elementary School handed to them by volunteer employees and management of SM Seaside City Cebu.

SM was once known as Shoe Mart, a shoe store that opened in 1958 in downtown Manila. Hardworking visionary Henry Sy Sr.’s business grew into a chain of shoe stores, and a department store in the 1970s.

Arnaldo Asuque, Jr., Assistant Principal of Buhisan Elementary and (Night) High School thanked SM Supermalls for choosing them as beneficiaries of the project.

“The 2,000 pairs of shoes given to our students will go a long way as they continue to fulfill their dreams in life. Surely they will never come to school barefooted. Thank you for igniting the torch of hopes in the hearts of our students through these pairs of shoes,” said Asuque. /PR
