USC, UC shine in Cesafi karatedo tilt

THE University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors Karatedo team is back to their prime as they hauled the most number of gold medals in the Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) Karatedo Kata and Kumite events last Saturday at the Robinsons Galleria.

The Warriors finished with four golds and four bronze medals to improve their second place finish in the Kata last season. They also had a medal haul of nine golds, three silvers and three bronze medals in the Kumite.

Accounting for the gilts were Allison Quiroga (HS Girls +50KGS), Tracy Basalo (Women’s Kata Senior), Team Kata HS Girls (Rose Seares, Crystal Beldas and Quiroga), and Synchronized Kata Women (Denise Metante, Steffi Tabañag and DJ Dente).

University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters took second place with their medal haul of 3-5-4. Their gold medals were chipped in by Precious Belecario (HS Girls -50KGS), Er Labura (HS Boys -60KGS), and Team Kata HS Boys (Earl Perez, Karyll Perez and Nicolas Avila).

Last season’s champion, University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars, fell to third place with their medal tally of 3-3-1. Handing in the gilts were Jeremy Nopre (HS Boys +60KGS), Gerald Baclaan (Men’s Kata Senior) and Synchronized Kata Men (Baclaan, Felix Calipusan and Jomar Pepito).

In the Kumite, trailing USC was USJ-R (8-7-3) at second and UC-Main settled for third with its 4-9-5 medal haul.
