GREAT things are sometimes created by humble beginnings. Sometimes, these are marked by pauses like when you stop what you’ve started because reality compels you to make a detour for something else more urgent and necessary.
When Kevin, an ordinary boy from a town south of Cebu joined Nice Day! Carwash as a part-time washer, he took that pause from going to school to help his family. Education is expensive and you cannot push your way through it without a sponsor, a scholarship or enough money to sustain yourself until college. A staggering number of undergraduates are leaving school to get employment and sometimes, some kids have to stop in favor of the younger ones to finish school. Your goals tell you there has to be a way out of this predicament but not today and for those who never lose sight of their dreams and are willing to go through whatever hardships push themselves to get it which is exactly what Kevin did: he decided to change his direction. He remembered the offer of the company’s President and CEO Vince Yap on the scholarship program for its deserving associates.
Nice Day! Carwash as a company has always been committed in giving back to the community, sponsoring charitable activities every quarter for the past eight years. Yet, there’s more that needs to be done here. Vince Yap says “We can always do charitable activities like feeding programs or give school supplies to underprivileged kids but these activities do not have long-term effects and is not sustainable. We wanted to do something that can contribute long term to the lives of our associates or the community. It’s more of the fulfillment in seeing someone succeed or improve their lives.”
As motivational speaker Tony Robbins would put it, it is not your condition that determines your future, it is your decisions today that change your destiny and because we are a biography where the past equals the future, this puts you in a circular fashion but then it doesn’t have to work that way.
You must make a decision now and tell your destiny where it’s going regardless of the hurdles on the road. Kevin is now trying to finish his studies at Abellana National High School which meant less time for work and more for school but Vince doesn’t seem to mind. Humble beginnings need compromise too!
