Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma prayed for peace and an end to the spate of killings in Cebu as thousands of Cebuanos welcomed the heart of St. Padre Pio at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral on Thursday (October 11).
Palma said it is ironic that Cebu, the cradle of Christianity in the Far East, has now become a place of so many killings.
The heart of Padre Pio, the prelate added, is a reminder for renewal and persistence in prayer.
Although the killings continue, Palma said Cebuanos should not become tired in praying.
The first class relic from Italy will stay in Cebu until Sunday (October 14).
This year marks the 100th year since the stigmata or the five wounds of Jesus appeared on Padre Pio’s hands, feet and side.
