DURING the 2014 colorful celebration of the Sinulog in Cebu City, a new product – Salamog – made its entry into the consciousness of the people of Cebu and of the Sinulog pilgrims.
Located at the corner of Mango Avenue and Echaves St., its Sinulog stall attracted many people and its streamer called out to those on the move to come to its stall to mix and enjoy a convenience meal of tasty Bicol food. And the people came in droves and ate all the limited stock prepared to test its market acceptance.
“Salamog” is a Bicol word meaning cooked rice mixed usually with parts of pork adobo, fish, laing or gulay na santol left in the pan and is sensational with hot “Bicol express.” Served in handy packs, it is a complete meal that may be eaten wherever one desires.
Salamog aims to fill the need of people to eat anywhere they may be during the season and afterwards.
Creator of this product is Mrs. Clara B. Cabaero whose experience in cooked foods started with her popular “Kusina Tagala” in Ermita, Manila, in the 1960s. The favorite in a place teeming with employees, the Kusina Tagala had to close when her husband who was assigned to Cebu in 1966 decided to bring along his entire family of eleven children to Cebu.
After the Sinulog, Salamog continues to be available for people who like good food, cheap at P59 per box, and is available at the worksite by arrangement or at convenient Salamog stop-and-go points soon to be established in the city. Minimum orders of 15 lunch boxes can be delivered free of charge within the central business district of Cebu City.
No need to go anywhere to eat, eat Salamog anywhere you go.
