DEFENDING champions University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors ended their first round of elimination at the top of the standings after a 1-0 edging of the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters in yesterday’s resumption of the 2018 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) collegiate football competition at the Cebu City Sports Center.

The Warriors now sport a record of 3-0-1 (win-loss-draw) worth 10 points at the end of the first round.
USC’s win was made possible by Pyke Tinoy’s goal in the 47th minute.

The Webmasters, who are playing in their first match of the second round of elimination, remain at the cellar with a 0-3-2 card, good for two points.

In the second game, the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Booters defeated the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars, 3-1.

Kenneth Vargas sealed the win for UV with a brace in the 44th and 81st minutes of the match. Carlo Garcia opened the scoring for the Green Booters in the 40th minute.

Jose Sedurifa prevented a shutout for USJ-R with his goal in the 56th minute.

The win allowed the Green Booters to stay at the second spot with seven points off a 2-1-1 slate while USJ-R also stayed at third spot despite the loss.

In the juniors division last Monday, the defending champions Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC) Greywolves ousted the Sisters of Mary School (SMS) Boystown Aloysians, 3-1, in the last elimination match.

DBTC climbed to third place and completed the semifinals cast in the secondary football. It will face USJ-R in the semis. The other semis pair features Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and USC-BED.
