BANKING on its defense, Monterey School scored another victory by beating the San Isidro Parish School (SIPS), 49-25, in a U-14 basketball game in the Private Schools Developmental League (PSDL) last Saturday at the Cebu Cherish School, Inc. (CCSI) Gym.
The victory kept Monterey unbeaten in the tournament as it now sports a 5-0 (win-loss) record.
Monterey head coach Ronald Bucao said the team’s success so far in the league could be credited to the perfect execution on the defensive end.
“We have always been working on our defense during training,” Bucao told Cebu Daily News. “As the coach, I really emphasized to my players that the defensive plays should be perfect.”
With its defense working well, Monterey was able to capitalize on the offensive end, with Christian Alijandrino top scoring for the team with 21 points.
Despite being undefeated, don’t expect Monterey to slack off a bit in the coming games as Bucao plans to keep his team hungry.
“We will be more aggresive and more willing to play and win,” he said.
Meanwhile, La Consolacion College (LCC) defeated Benthel Asia School of Technology (BAST), 63-44, while Center for International Education (CIE) defeated St. Louis College Cebu (SLCC), 54-43, in the 18-Under division.
In the 16-Under division, BAST won against Salazar College of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT), 38-34, and SIPS beat Springdale, 26-20.
Results in the 12-Under saw SCSIT defeat Springdale, 49-34, and St. Benedict beat Soreto B. Cabahug (SBC)- Forum, 42-12.
