Cebuana freediver to vie in Indonesia

CEBUANA Maria Noella “Wei” Zosa will represent the country in the upcoming 1st International Sail Sabang-Subing Freediving Competition to be held in Indonesia on November 3 to 7.

The 31-year-old Zosa, a member of Cebu freediving teams Sawum Freedivers and Dive Ta Bai (DTB), will be joined by Martin Zapanta from the Philippine Freediving Team.

Zosa holds the current 48-meter-deep Constant Weight (CWT) record which she logged during the Asian Freediving Cup (AFC) held in Panglao Island, Bohol, last June 7 to 9, 2018.

She started her freediving passion after being introduced to the underwater world by her father, Noel Zosa, who is a scuba diver.

“When I started freediving, it was difficult because I did know back then the efficient breath-holding techniques. I am grateful I met and engage with the Sawum and DTB people where I was taught initially those techniques. They too inspired me to pursue with the sport,” the younger Zosa said.

Also a yoga instructor, Zosa prepares her dives by training her mind to relax.

“It is important that you prepare yourself mentally and be comfortable with underwater,” she said.
