Season of scare: SM Cinema’s Sine-Sindak horror film festival

NO, it’s not Christmas just yet so stop the merry songs and postpone the holiday cheers. It is the season of scare as SM Cinema opened the first Sine-Sindak Horror Film Festival last Oct. 25 with tickets pegged at P99 per movie or P199 for unlimited one day pass.

In Cebu, the film festival will run until Oct. 30 (Tuesday) at SM City Cebu, SM Consolacion and SM Seaside City offering viewers the fright of their lives this Halloween season.

With Sine-Sindak Horror Film Festival SM Cinema once again proved its mission to intensify their patron’s visual experience by playing the creepiest and spookiest movies on the big screen.

“Urban Evil” (South Korea)
This award-winning film from South Korea runs for 83 minutes and is composed of three short embracing the horror, action and mystery genres. “Urban Evil” features the stories of a fragile assistant deacon out to exorcise an evil spirit from a child’s body; a father and a boy who are running for their lives; and a woman who changes the life of a man named Won-gi. The movie screened at the Sitges International Fantastic Festival, won Best Korean Short Film at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival and Best Director at the Jeonju International Film Festival.

“The Hollow One” (USA)
Written and directed by Nathan Hendrickson, “The Hollow One” features the lives of the Wade family—couple Michael and Linda, and their daughters, Rachel and Anna. The movie revolves around the mysterious past of Linda, her death and the strange town where the family used to live.

“Sinister Circle” (Peru)
This is a story of a skeptical psychologist, her son, Julio and an ancient Ouija board that kills anyone who plays with it. Added to the horror mix is a band of sinister individuals who seem to sacrifice children to preserve the board.

“The Evil in Us” (United Kingdom)
Brie Armstrong’s fiancé and friends were infected by a drug, disguised as cocaine, that sent them into a psychotic range and transformed them into cannibals. The movie follows the main character’s intense fight to survive, discovering the truth behind the drug in the process.

“Darkness Rising” (USA)
Madison, the lone survivor of a family massacre, returns to her childhood home with her cousin and boyfriend 20 years after her mother murdered her little sister. What happens in the process is a horrifying confrontation with her past and an evil spirit.

“The Dead Room” (New Zealand)
Two scientists and a psychic were hired by an insurance company to investigate an old farm house, in which a “ghost” disturbs the inhabitant’s peace. What follows is the heart-pounding stay of Liam, Scott and Holly inside the house where they encountered two entities.

“The Lost Case” (Thailand)
If previous Thai horror films are not enough to prove this country’s ability to make you scream, then let The Lost Case do the job. Bizarre and eerie activities happened as two newcomers, Itt and Por, of the popular show, “Ghost Doctor TV” work together to investigate the case of a man whose wife has been acting strange since the suicide of their daughter. The movie was released in Thailand on February 9, 2017. Screenplay is by Chayan Ittijatuporn, who also directed the film.

“The Hoarder” (USA)
You wished it was just a storage unit rented by your boyfriend to hide an illicit
affair. Curiosity led Ella to find out that the storage hides a secret worse than infidelity.
