Playing the best game of its season, SIPS outlasts MOSP in PSDL hoops

WITH the team executing the game plan better this time around, the San Isidro Parish School (SIPS) chalked up a 47-38 victory over the Mt. Olive School of the Philippines (MOSP) last Saturday in the 9th Private Schools Developmental League (PSDL) Under-14 basketball tournament at the Cebu Cherish School, Inc. gym.

The win was SIPS’ second in five games while MOSP suffered its fifth straight loss of the season.

SIPS head coach Elmer Gumila was delighted with the way his wards performed against MOPS, saying this was by far the best game his team played this season.

“Today’s match was way much better than our previous games. In our previous games, I can’t see the proper execution of our defense, which SIPS is known for,” Gumila said. “ (In this game,) we were able to make steals, stops and easy layups. Unlike the prior games where we were disoriented as to how we will attack and defend.”

Michael Russell Navaja led SIPS with 14 points. Prince Ozner had nine for the losing squad.

In the 18-Under category, the Divine Life Institute of Cebu (DLIC) crushed the Benthel Asia School of Technology (BAST), 70-35.

BAST was also successful in the 16-Under category, defeating Mandaue Christian School (MCS), 55-36. The other 18-U game also saw Monterey streak past DLIC, 49-42.

In the 12-Under category, DLIC downed Monterey, 66-30, while Salazar College of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) defeated MOSP, 43-40.
