What sets the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) from other inter-school league such as the UAAP and NCAA in Manila is that aside from the sporting events, it also has an academic and cultural competitions.
“That is part of the objective of the Cesafi. We don’t just provide the students with physical activities but also with activities that test their mental capacities,” said Cesafi commissioner Felix “Boy” Tiukinhoy.
This year’s academic and cultural events of the Cesafi will have its opening ceremonies on November 20 at the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) gym.
Also to be held in the morning of the same day is the hip hop dance contest which is only for the secondary level while in the afternoon will be the vocal solo competition which will accept entries from all levels.
There are 14 events including the hip hop and vocal solo in the academic and cultural events of the Cesafi.
The other events are current events and general info, math quiz, science quiz, spelling contest, duet, essay writing, declamation, sudoku, oration, impromptu, balak/sangka sa panulong and robotics.
According to Tiukinhoy, only the hip hop and the vocal solo will be held this year, the rest of the academic and cultural events will be held next year already starting January.
Cesafi has always been vocal about helping mold students holistically thus aside from the physical, they also hold competitions to showcase the mental capabilities of the students.
“The students look forward to the academic and cultural events because it provides them with a venue to show their talents,” said Tiukinhoy.
During the launching of the 18th season of the Cesafi last August, new league president, Engr. Bernard Nicolas E. Villamor of CIT-U, said that aside from the sporting events, he also wants to give exposure to the academic and cultural events.
The 15 sporting events form the first part of the Cesafi season while the second part of the season will have the academic and cultural events.
