It’s time to experience a musical and socio-political fusion once more with UP Cookout 2018 at the UP Cebu grounds this November 9!
UP Cookout 2018 is going hyperlocal this year with the theme KASABA as it maintains its highly regarded agenda of relevance in tackling social issues with a prevalent Bisaya flavor. It will also be fielding a ton of local artists and UP talents at the forefront throughout the night, extending from 6 P.M. on November 9 to 6 A.M. on the next day.
As Cookout 2018 Overall Director Nicole Pagle puts it, the KASABA theme contributes to the political line dually — the Cebuano word “kasaba” can derive either “to be reprimanded” or “to make noise and be heard”.
Local artists headlining the lineup include Vincent Eco, Three Legged Men, Kubra Commander, Duende, Wonggoys, and Intertwined with homegrown bands Karma, Ala Ahkbar, and The Parachutes also taking the stage.
Not to be found amiss are the multitude of UP talents that UP Cookout will be highlighting organized across five segments — we have Kantahan, Sayawan, Bandahan, Rampahan, and Panulaan, each of which highlights a specific type of artistic performance with its own socio-cultural subthemes.
“It is the double meaning [of KASABA] that presents itself as a challenge to the public… which of it are they going to be? The one that shuts out the voices of the truth, or the one that voices out the truth?” expresses Pagle.
Each segment highlights issues on discrimination, oppression of the marginalized, police brutality, media misrepresentation, and activist crackdown, respectively.
