LAPU-LAPU City Mayor Paz Radaza delivered her State of the Children Address (SOCA) yesterday.
In her SOCA, Radaza admitted that it was difficult to reach out to the younger generation especially with the presence of social media now.
She said adults should guide the youths to use the social media properly.
“We will be guiding them kon unsay sakto (the correct way) of using the social media,” Radaza said.
The mayor also created a Facebook account to connect with the youth.
She asked the attendees, composed mostly of students from the different elementary and high schools in the city, to take a selfie with her and tag her on Facebook.
Radaza also asked the attendees to be responsible in using the social media. “I urged them to use social media for social good,” she told Cebu Daily News.
Apart from that, the mayor emphasized the importance of providing the children with quality education.
“We will make them aware about their rights to health, education and protection,” Radaza said.
In her administration, Radaza said at least P160 million budget was allocated for the construction of classrooms for public schools in the city.
Radaza said she also allocated a P3 million budget for cash incentives for students who excel in their studies especially board exam topnotchers and passers.
Around 8,000 students from both the public and private elementary and high schools in the city attended the program at the Hoops Dome.
In the afternoon, the participants enjoyed the free carnival rides sponsored by the city government, as part of the National Children’s Month Celebration.
