EVEN as the side roads of the Mambaling underpass project will be open to traffic this November 24, buses and trucks will still not be allowed to ply through N. Bacalso Avenue.
Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) Operations Chief Francisco Ouano said the side roads are not yet passable for heavy vehicles which may further constrict traffic flow in the area.
“The condition of the side roads may not be able to accommodate trucks and buses considering these vehicles are huge,” he said adding that they will soon announce when trucks and buses can access N. Bacalso Avenue again.
At present, southbound trucks and buses traverse through the Cebu South Coastal Road in the South Road Properties (SRP).
The southern portion of Metro Cebu continues to face traffic woes as several road projects are being implemented, simultaneously, by the Department of Public Works and Highways in Central Visayas (DPWH – 7).
In Cebu City, state engineers are not only building the P638-million Mambaling Underpass along N. Bacalso Avenue but are also doing road concreting works in F. Vestil Street also known as the Mambaling Access Road resulting to heavy traffic.
Meanwhile, the northbound lane of Mananga Bridge in Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City was closed to traffic starting Wednesday to pave way for repairs.
While the closure of Mananga Bridge may have no significant effect on Cebu City, Ouano said they will coordinate with the traffic management of Talisay City, especially on the traffic flow from Cebu City to Talisay.
“We’re particularly monitoring the Laray-Inayawan road since it serves as an access road to Talisay City, and there may be traffic bottlenecks there,” said Ouano.
