DEFENDING champions Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras will be vying for the remaining finals ticket against Cebu Institute of Technology University (CIT-U) Wildcats in today’s last day of semifinals round of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) men’s volleyball competition at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) gym.
Last weekend, the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers clinched the first finals ticket after defeating CIT-U, 25-19, 25-22, 25-17, despite advancing to the semifinals as the fourth-ranked team.
The Cobras, who were the top seed, and the Wildcats, the third seed, hold similar 1-1 win-loss records while the second-ranked University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars suffer from a 0-2 record after losing to the Cobras, 25-18, 21-25, 19-25, 25-20, 10-15, last week.
Thus, they ended their chances for the title but still has an opportunity to settle for third place.
The Jaguars also have a chance to post a win in their last semifinals game when they face the Green Lancers after the SWU-CIT-U game at 8:30 a.m.
The CIT-U Wildcats will have a tough time on their hands as they had bowed to the defending champions, 15-25, 25-18, 25-22, 20-25, 10-15, during the eliminations.
Aside from that, SWU-Phinma had not dropped any of their games in the elimination round, advancing to the semifinals with an immaculate 7-0 record.
CIT-U, for its part, ended the eliminations with a 5-2 card. Its other loss was inflicted by UV, 22-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-20, 9-15.
