Expect colder days ahead says Pagasa

BRACE for colder days ahead as a slight drop in temperature is anticipated in the month of December, the state weather bureau said.

Engr. Alfredo Quiblat Jr., acting chief of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa)-Visayas, said the cold air is due to the surge of the prevailing northeast monsoon or amihan.

“Ma-experience na nato ang surge sa amihan. Pero sa pagkakaron tua sa Luzon pa,” he said.

Quiblat said Cebuanos may experience much cooler temperature by the second week or third week of this month.

According to Pagasa Mactan Weather Specialist Jomar Eclarino, Cebu’s temperature this month would slightly drop in the range of 24.5 to 30.3 degrees Celsius.

Last month’s temperature range was between 24.8 to 30.9 degrees.

Quiblat said the body’s heat index is also expected to go down to an average of 37 degrees from the previous month’s average index of 38 to 39 degrees.

Quiblat, however, said the temperature, though slightly cooler, is still a bit warmer than the normal average for the month of December.

He said this is due to the impending El Niño which is expected to hit the country next year.

Apart from that, weather experts also noted a deficit in the volume of rainfall.

“Atong forecast sa rainfall condition is below normal for the next five months kay naa tay posible nga taas og chance na mo-develop ang El Niño,” he said.

Despite that, Quiblat advised the public to wear appropriate clothing to combat the sudden change in temperature.

Quiblat also bared that there is no weather disturbance affecting Cebu and the rest of Central Visayas and that the whole province will have fair weather in the coming days.

Sunny periods with isolated rains, particularly in the evening, is to be anticipated due to localized thunderstorms.
