Department of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade has ordered the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to decrease the fares of jeepneys following the slump in fuel prices.

This was the announcement of LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra on Monday, saying that the order of fare rollback may be released within the day.

However, no final details were provided yet on how much the fare would decrease.

“After the prices of fuel have peaked sometime in October, bumababa na rin nang bumaba ‘yung presyo ng krudo, and from which reason, Secretary Tugade directed LTFRB to rollback the fare rate and that is basically what we are doing,” Delgra said in an interview.

“Hopefully, we would be able to issue it today,” he added.

Delgra also noted that the rollback of fare in PUJs is noted connected to the petition filed by a commuter’s group before the agency in November.

“It is without prejudice to the petition that was filed recently na humihingi ng pagbaba ng presyo sa PUJ. Ibig sabihin tuloy-tuloy po yung hearing na iyon,” he said.
