THE Cebu City Department of Public Works and Engineering (DEPW) has announced the delay in the implementation of close to P60 million worth of infrastructure projects due to delays in securing clearances.
Assistant City Engineer Nilo Igot said the implementation of a total of 10 projects, from road rehabilitation to disaster mitigation, will be pushed back to a later date.
“They were supposed to be implemented this year,” said Igot.
Igot said that seven of these projects, amounting to P50 million, secured their barangay clearances later than scheduled, which means these could not be bidded out until next year.
He was referring to the reconcreting of the interior roads in several barangays such as Kamputhaw, Bulacao, Lahug, and slope protection to prevent landslides in the hinterland villages of Sinsin and Guba.
Also delayed were the construction of drainages, curbs, and gutters on Visitacion Street, Sitios Sadpa and SNCA in Barangay Sambag II; and the road rehabilitation of Sitio Mahayahay II in Barangay Pasil; and the farm-to-market road in Barangay Taptap.
Igot said the DEPW was now reviewing the reasons why barangay clearances were not secured on time.
DEPW, on the other hand, shelved the P3.5-million road concreting of Ibarra and Bonifacio Streets in Barangay Parian after they found out that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) would implement it.
