Lady Panthers remain undefeated

THE University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) is confident of its chances at grabbing this year’s girls beach volleyball title of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi).

“I am confident because the girls have high experience and exposure to the sport,” USPF head coach Yolanda Rizarri told Cebu Daily News. “And, the girls themselves, are very determined to win,” she added.

USPF was the runner-up last season after losing the title to the University od San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R).

USPF bets Tracy Cortes and Maria Tes Gloria won against Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma’s tandem of Marifel Rupinta and Frenzy Marie Batulan, 21-18, 21-10, yesterday at the Sand Court of Fort San Pedro.

The USPF Baby Panthers kept its record immaculate at 3-0 while the SWU- Phinma Baby Cobras split their games at 1-1.

At the same time, USPF is also dominating in the boys division with its duo of Amil Pacinio, Jr. and Ian Kym Jumandos defeating the University of San Carlos (USC), 21-7, 21-6, to stretched their streak to 4-0 and handing the Baby Warriors a 3-2 card.

In the other boys division games, Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC) won against Ateneo, 21-17, 11-21, 15-12; University of Cebu (UC) ruled over Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U), 21-18, 15-21, 17-15; SWU-Phinma defeated USJ-R, 22-20, 16-21, 15-12; and UC swept DBTC, 21-18, 22-20.In the other girls division matches, USJ-R thrashed UC, 21-18, 21-11.

Meanwhile, in the women’s division, USPF defeated SWU, 21-14, 21-11; CIT-U won against UC, 21-18, 21-18; and Cebu Doctors University (CDU) ruled over SWU, 20-22, 21-17, 15-9.

For the men’s, USPF owned SWU, 18-21, 21-14, 16-14, while UC defeated USJ-R, 11-21, 21-16, 15-12.
