British brand to add pickup truck, MPV, hatchback to current vehicle lineup

Morris Garages (MG) will be among the car brands to watch out for in Cebu in 2019 as it is expected to add six new models to its existing vehicle lineup.

This was divulged by MG Cebu Sales Manager Valarie Borja in a meet-and-greet event hosted by the newly opened MG Cebu dealership of the Genesis Motors Corporation last December 11, 2018.

Borja said among the six, there will be a pickup truck, a hatchback, and a multipurpose vehicle (MPV). Should this push through, it would be an exciting year ahead for the MG brand since it will be joining three categories that are doing pretty well in the local motoring scene,

“It will be a good year for MG. It should be,” Borja said, despite MG being a new player in the auto industry.

Currently, MG Cebu has in its showroom three models: the MG RX5 compact SUV, the MG ZS subcompact SUV and the MG 6 compact sedan, all of which boasts of rich British automotive heritage dating back to over 90 years.

Borja said she is positive that the brand will be well received by the Cebuano market, even if it is now being owned by China’s SAIC Motor Corp. Limited, a Fortune 100 Global company.

“I think Cebu will be ready to take on the brand because it’s something new. And, considering the price positioning we have, it can really compete well with the other brands,” Borja said. “The brand has been here since 1924 and one will be able to experience the British heritage when driving a MG.”
Price will indeed be a huge advantage for MG vehicles.

The MG ZS, for example, starts at a price of P868,888 for the manual transmission. The top of the line is priced at P1,048,888, with all the premium features like soft touch materials in its panels and dashboard, sunroof and leather seats.

The MG RX5 starts at a price of P1,108,888 while the MG 6, which boasts of a 1.5-liter turbo engine, starts at P1,118,888.

All three come with a 5-year warranty.

“So if you compare it with other car brands, you can see that the prices are really very affordable,” Borja added.

Meanwhile, Borja is encouraging those curious about the brand to check out MG vehicles either in its newly opened showroom along AS Fortuna Street, which used to be Volvo Cebu, or at the SM City Cebu, where it is displaying its vehicle lineup until December 20.
