MORE help is on the way for the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) from the Chinese government.
Chinese Consul General of Cebu, Jia Li, announced in a press interview yesterday, Monday (December 17), that they would be willing to shoulder some of the equipment needed for CCMC’s new building.
“Hopefully, for the next year we can donate more hospital beds. We are planning to donate around 25 wheelchairs, and hopefully, as soon as the new CCMC building is open, we are planning to donate more,” said Janelle Binuaza, Li’s interpreter.

Yesterday, Li and Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña signed the Deed of Donation for the 110 hospital beds donated by the Chinese Consulate of Cebu to the city government.
Li also inspected the current condition of CCMC shortly before the ceremonial signing took place.
Each bed is estimated to cost at P25,000. This meant that the Chinese government had spent a total of P2.75 million for all the beds.
“This is a really big help for CCMC because as of the moment, we don’t have any budget for the capital outlay, and we are preparing for the new building. With the donation, at least our expenses will be lessened,” said Kenneth Siasar, CCMC hospital administrator, in an interview.
Siasar also said they would immediately use some of the donated hospital beds and would transfer them to the CCMC’s new building by the second quarter of 2019.
“We needed 300 beds for the new building. The old building is credited as a 98-bed capacity hospital, but we have 150 patients admitted daily,” explained Siasar.
