Sykes makes E-League hoops semis

THE Sykes Pioneers advanced to the semifinal stage in the Elite Classic division of the Tanduay Athletics E-League for Basketball after they blew out the ePerformax Reds, 88-57, in the quarterfinals last Sunday at the City Sports Club-Cebu.

Sykes got another massive game from former Cesafi ace, Janjan Auditor, who compiled 32 points, 14 boards, two assists and a steal. Sherwin Anghay also had key numbers with his 11 points, nine boards, seven assists and four steals.

The fifth-seed Fusion BPO Services Dragons meanwhile, kept their season going with a 78-75 win over the defending titlist, Converters. Nino Belande led the Dragons’ fight as he spewed fire with his 25 points and 16 rebounds.

Justin Marie Mier also put up 14 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and a steal while Janille Kristianne Bantilan chipped in 12. Nigerian big man Bina Ikiya Mark Egbe held the middle down with 13 rebounds, four points, one block and an assist.

In the Evo League, the Tech Mahindra Tech Mighties and the Contact Solutions Flying Lemurs also sent their quarterfinal match-ups to do-or-die games with victories last weekend.

The sixth-seeded Flying Lemurs dropped the number three seed Results Manila Spartans, 84-64, while the fifth-seeded Tech Mighties turned away the fourth-seeded Author Solutions Philippines Inc. (ASPI) Hardbacks, 76-68.

Jerard Dela Cerna led the way for the Flying Lemurs with 25 points.

Leading Tech Mahindra’s crucial win was Robert Rebano, who tallied 29 points.

King Luigi Olbes added 11 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and five steals.
