Rainbow’s Sunset sweeps MMFF awards

JOEL Lamangan’s “Rainbow Sunset” ruled the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2018 awards.

The movie, which stars Eddie Garcia, Gloria Romero, Tony Mabesa, Sunshine Dizon, Aiko Melendez, Tirso Cruz III, and Max Collins, took home 11 awards during the Gabi ng Parangal held at the Solaire

Resort and Casino in Parañaque City Thursday night.

Among the awards given were Best Picture, Best Production Design, Best Original Theme Song (Sa’yo Na), Best Screenplay, and Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award.

“Rainbow’s Sunset” is a story of an old man named Ramon (Garcia), who comes out as gay to his children. He is in a relationship with Fredo played by Mabesa.

Directed by Lamangan, the movie is produced by Heaven’s Best Entertainment.

“Congratulations @heavensbestent and to all the winners from #RainbowSunset for bagging 11 wins for the MMFF 2018. Truly an honor to be part of this movie,” she said.

Lamangan was recognized as Best Director while veteran actress Gloria Romero bagged the Best Actress award. Garcia received the Special Jury Prize.

Romero plays Slyvia, the wife of Ramon. The couple has three children named Emman (Cruz), Georgina (Melendez), and
Fe (Dizon).

Collins, who portrayed the young Sylvia, also received the Special Jury Prize.

Melendez won the Best Supporting Actress award while Mabesa was named Best Supporting Actor.

On her Instagram post, Melendez said, “Ang tagal ko po walang entry sa MMFF and this is indeed a great comeback for me! And a great way to end 2018! Thank you, Lord Jesus, for this wonderful gift.”

Winning four awards was Yam Laranas’ horror-drama, “Aurora.” The Anne Curtis-starrer won the awards for Best Cinematography, Best Visual
Effects, Best Sound Design and was the Second Best Picture.
