Barangay aid still available in Cebu City

THE P6.6 million aid that the Cebu City government committed to its 80 barangays last year can still be availed of this year.

Asst. Budget Officer Marietta Gumia said the assistance was already obligated before the city closed its 2013 book of accounts and is now considered as among this year’s payables.
Gumia said they extended deadlines in the filing of obligations to the barangays several times with the last deadline set last Feb. 7.

“It will now be up to the city treasurer’s office to determine if they can already release the aid,” she said.

The city council approved during their Wednesday morning session a resolution by Councilor Eugenio Gabuya Jr. asking the city accounting and budget offices to obligate the 2013 aid to city barangays worth P528 million.

Gumia said the city’s assistance was already obligated even before the approval of Gabuya’s resolution.

So far, at least four barangays including barangay Lahug were already able to claim their share of assistance.

The release of the share of the 76 other barangays was delayed due to their failure to immediately comply with requirements for the release of their 2013 aid which include the submission of liquidation of their 2012 aid.
