Council to review proposed SRP routes

CEBU City Councilor Nestor Archival proposed the opening of three new routes to give way to the High Quality Transport System (HQPTS) that will provide public transport access to the South Road Properties (SRP).

Archival said in a resolution that the city government will have to find an alternative HQTPS while the Bus Rapid Transit is pending approval by the national government.

His resolution that was presented by Councilor Roberto Cabarrubias to the council during their February 19 session,  endorses the routes to the Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Councilor Archival skipped the session to attend his brother’s wake.

But councilors wanted to be briefed on the proposed HQPTS and how the opening of the new routes would affect traffic flow at the SRP and in the city as a whole before passing Archival’s resolution.

Archival’s resolution proposes for the opening of  a new public transport route that will traverse Talisay City – SRP –  Mambaling – Talisay City – SRP – Talisay City.

He is also proposing a second route  from Talisay City – SRP – Mambaling – near city hall area – SM Mall  – North Bus Terminal – SM Mall – city hall area – SRP – Mambaling – SRP – Talisay City.

“The second route is dependent on the stage of the development of the locators within the SRP as well as the travel demand, thus, another shorter route (route 3) for the northbound passengers is necessary.

The proposed route 3 will traverse North Bust Terminal in Mandaue City – SM Mall – city hall area – SRP – Mambaling – SRP – near city hall – SM Mall – North Bus Terminal.
