THE town of Medellin in northern Cebu was awarded the “Seal of Good Housekeeping” by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The “Seal of Good Housekeeping” affirmed the Medellin municipal government’s performance in governance particularly in the areas of “local legislation, development planning, resource generation, resource allocation and utilization, customer service, and human resource management and development.”
Medellin’s “Seal of Good Housekeeping” also means that the town did not receive adverse opinion from the Commission on Audit about its operations, and that the town fully complied with the Full Disclosure Policy –a transparency requirement.
Interior Secretary Mar Roxas had informed Medellin Mayor Ricardo Ramirez III about the town’s recognition in a letter.
Medellin is a second-class town located 120 kilometers north of Cebu City. It is dubbed as the “sugar bowl of Cebu” with its vast sugarcane plantations; the “golfing capital of Cebu” being the only town with two international standard golf courses; and the “eco-adventure capital of the north” with its various local government-owned ecotourism facilities.
The town government is currently focusing on rebuilding, using local funds and with the help of private donors as its over 12,000 households and public buildings sustained severe damage from supertyphoon Yolanda, due to its proximity to Daanbantayan where the typhoon made one of its landfalls.
