A man was shot dead while he was allegedly about to attack the two children of a barangay tanod in barangay Tagbubunga, Asturias town.
Joy Juntong Bacaron died on the spot with gunshot wounds in the head and chest.
Police arrested the children’s father, Roel Noval the next day after he owned up the crime.
Based on the police investigation, Bacaron and Noval’s two minor children figured in an argument last Sunday afternoon.
At past 7 p.m., a drunk Bacaron and the tanod’s two children chanced upon each other in a sari-sari store. There, Bacaraon allegedly tried to maul the two children.
Bacaron was pacified by his nephew, who then advised the two children to leave to avoid more trouble.
The two children ran towards a river bank. Bacaron chased the two children when he was shot. Four spent shells of a .357 revolver were recovered from the crime scene.
The following morning, police invited Noval for questioning and later underwent a paraffin test.
Noval tested positive for gunpowder burns. It was only then that he admitted shooting Bacaron, said SPO3 Dennis Nocos, investigator of the Asturias Police Station.
Bacaron admitted that he kept in his house the .357 revolver he used in the shooting. Bacaron’s wife surrendered the firearm to the police.
A charge of homicide will be filed against the suspect, police said.
