CIS booters win Under-7 crown

THE CEBU International School (CIS) booters showed their superior strength in the Under-7 mix division as they took off with the championship title on Saturday during the CIS Friendship Cup football tournament held at the CIS football grounds in Pit-os, Talamban.
The CIS-A mixed booters snared the overall title in the division after tallying four victories without loss and drawn matches, while the Consolacion United Football Club grabbed second-place honors after logging in a win-loss-draw card of 3-0-1.
Headed by tournament Most Valuable Player awardee Hiro Nishikura, the CIS-A team shot down sister team, CIS B, 5-1, blanked the Giuseppe Football Club, 3-0, spanked Consolacion United Football Club, 4-1, before escaping with a 1-0 win versus Marie Ernestine to snare the title.
Marie Ernestine finished at third spot with with a record of 2-0-2, while CIS B took the fourth spot with 1-0-3.
In the Boys Under-13 wars, the Warshockz team relied on Angelo Colina to win three straight victories after a perfect campaign in the eliminations to snare the accolade in the age group category.
Colina was awarded the MVP honor as he and his teammates teamed up together in blasting the Saintz FC in the quarterfinals, 4-0, before following this up with a 1-0 semis win over the Giuseppe FC and conquering the St. Thomas 11, 3-0, in the championship match. St. Thomas finished in the second place.
Meanwhile, the championship matches in the Under-9 mix, Under-11 mix, Under-15 boys, Under-18 girls and the Under-18 boys divisions were still being played at press time yesterday.
Matches in the Under-14 Girls, Women’s Open, Inter-Company and the Men’s Open, on the other hand, will unfold today.
Among those expected to vie for the crown are the Daedalus FC, Consolacion United FC, KN Ferraren United, Warzhocz, Phoenix FC, Nomads, New Bourne United, SSI United, SSI United X, Sembros and Southwestern Opto FC./Correspondent JADE S. VIOLETA
