Cebu City, Philippines — Alumni of the Don Bosco Technical College are set to converge at the DBTC gym on Sunday, March 24, 2019, for the opening of the 2019 Don Bosco Cup basketball tournament.
The five-month long competition, which pits different alumni of the esteemed academic institution against one another, is being spearheaded by the Don Bosco Cebu Alumni Inc. led by Inting Escobido.
Joining Escobido at the press conference on Friday evening were Louie Domasian SDB, and Atty. Dean Padoga, both of whom are from batch 1998.
Escobido said the thrust of the DBCAI is bring Don Bosco alumni “home” to engage their fellow alumni in different activities apart from just basketball and even give back to their alma mater.
Proceeds of the tournament will be used to renovate and beautify the school’s lobby.
The Don Bosco Cup will have two divisions, with the 1st Division being composed of teams from batches 1980 to 2003 and the 2nd Division being composed of teams from batches 2004 to 2017.
There are 11 teams in each division with teams set to play a single round-robin in their division during the elimination round. The top two finishers in each division will advance to the semifinals outright and have a twice-to-beat advantage there.
Teams ranked third to sixth will duke it out in knockout games to determine who will move on to the Final Four.
The champion squad in each division will earn a cash prize of P25,000 while runners-up will go home with P10,000 and P5,000 respectively. /bmjo
