Firm asked: Explain bridge project

Cebu Provincial Board Member Arleigh Sitoy has filed a resolution inviting a top official of a company that expressed interest in building a third bridge connecting mainland Cebu and Mactan Island to shed light on the firm’s plans.

Sitoy’s father, Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy, will also be asked to attend the session along with Pablo Villaver, president and general manager of the Malayan Integrated Industries Corp. (MIIC).

The PB will decide on Sitoy’s proposal in today’s session.

The MIIC earlier announced plans to revive the shelved 3,500-hectare Cordova Development and Reclamation Project (CRDP).

The P70 billion proposed project includes the construction of a third bridge from M.J. Cuenco Ave. in Cebu City to Shell Island in Cordova town.

The Cebu provincial government, however, also entered into an agreement with Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., a subsidiary of a consortium owned by business tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan, to undertake a study on the  possibility of a third bridge. Provincial officials met with representatives of Metro Pacific to get updates on the ongoing feasibility study.

Mayor Sitoy complained that Malayan has yet to coordinate with the province for the reclamation project.
