Carcar ends Talisay’s streak with 85-84 squeaker

Cebu City, Philippines—Carcar City emphatically put an end to the long winning streak of the reigning champions Talisay City as they edged the Aquastars, 85-84, in 1st District action in the 2019 Governor’s Cup basketball tournament on Sunday evening, March 24, at the Minglanilla Gym.

Ronald Delfino was the man of the hour for Carcar City as he fired in 28 points to lead Carcar to their third win in five games while pulling down Talisay City to 3-1 (win-loss).

Rey Joseph Alfeche, Dilcer Gaviola and Dave Abella also contributed key numbers with 14, 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Keaton Taburnal had 23 points for the Aquastars including 14 points in the fourth period as Talisay City tried but failed to overhaul a 56-63 deficit during that stretch. Jay Deiparine added 17 markers.

The evening saw yet another shocker as Minglanilla Archangels dominated the Naga City Electrifiers, 93-82.

Alvier Alforque put up 22 points to lead the way for the Archangels while Ryzel Gilbuena and Mark Nebril chipped in 14 and 11 points, respectively, to push Minglanilla’s record to 2-2. Naga City fell to 3-2.

Elsewhere, Bogo City dropped Tabogon, 68-60, in the 4th District while Tabuelan nipped Medellin, 84-81. Madridejos also pushed their unbeaten streak to 4-0 after clobbering Santa Fe, 110-61. /bmjo
