CEBU CITY, Philippines — An armed man robbing the passengers of a public utility jeep (PUJ) in Magallanes Street, Barangay Ermita, Cebu City at past 10 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2019, was shot and killed by an off-duty policeman who happened to be on board the same PUJ.
Police said the PUJ (O41) was bound for Plaza Housing, an upland suburban village in Barangay Busay, Cebu City, when the robber boarded the jeepney in Magallanes Street in downtown Cebu City.
Minutes later the robber, armed with a .22 revolver, declared a hold up and had already gotten hold of the belongings of the passengers, including cellular phones and jewelry, when the shooting occured.
Senior Inspector Franklin Tale, chief of the Ermita Police Precinct, said the “hero policeman” who shot the robber was P03 Nemesio Denopol, who is currently assigned at the Parian Police Precinct./elb
