Recognition due for hero cop in Cebu

Cebu City, Philippines — The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) is set to give a recognition to the police officer who shot dead an armed man who robbed passengers of a public utility jeepney (PUJ) on Sunday evening, March 24, 2019.

Senior Superintendent Royina Garma, director of CCPO, said they are now processing the recognition set for Police Officer 3 Nemesio Dinopol.

“We will be issuing a recommendation para mabigyan nang [recognition] yung bravery nang kapulisan natin,” said Garma. (so that the bravery of our police will be given recognition.) 

Dinopol was riding a jeepney with a route code of 04I (Carbon to Busay and vice versa) bound for Barangay Busay, Cebu City past 8 p.m. along Magallanes Street in Barangay Ermita, Cebu City when a robber declared a holdup. 

At that time, Dinopol, who is currently assigned at Parian Police Station, was off duty. 

He shot the suspect identified as Hygie Mambiar after the latter attempted to escape the scene. Mambiar was armed with a .22 revolver. /bmjo
