Want to do your part in saving mother earth?
Let’s start by cutting back on your trash.
A zero-waste lifestyle conserves natural resources and reduces pollution from manufacturing and disposal products.
Here are a few tips to get you started:
Keep your kitchen simple
According to Bea Johnson, zero-waste lifestyle pioneer, the most important place to start waste reduction is in the kitchen.
Start simple by using washable rags then paper towel to clean up or dry any spills.
Swap the kitchen sponge, which is a bacteria magnet to boot with a sustainable bamboo kitchen brush so you wont have to change it every week.
Buy essentials in bulk to minimize plastic packaging and save yourself from multiple trips to the grocery store.
No to plastics
The Philippines has the highest trash collection rate in Southeast Asia and is the world’s third biggest contributor of plastic pollution. Tons of waste ends up in the ocean killing thousands of animals. By eliminating products with plastic packaging and using reusable bags instead, you can help reduce the country’s 2.7 million ton output of plastic garbage each year.
Drop single-use products
Styrofoam containers, coffee cups and straws are mostly used once, but they stay on earth practically forever after throwing them away. Swap these disposable items for reusable ones.
Keep a stainless steel straw in your bag along with a a tumbler which you can use for a to-go drink.
Next time you purchase something, consider its full life-cycle.
Think about where it come from and where its going after you’re through with it.
Transitioning to a zero-waste lifestyle wont happen overnight. It may seem daunting but the end-process is liberating.
Be part of the solution towards water conservation. Start saving!
