CEBU CITY, Philippines – The Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) has brought their anti-drugs campaign to another level.
Aside from doing their usual lectures, city police have resorted to the use of a song which a group of four policemen and a policewoman called the “Link Jammers” recorded almost two years ago to especially attract the attention of the youth to join their symposiums which they call “Tapok Hangyo” (Taphang).
Chief Inspector Mercy Villaro, MCPO Information Officer, told Cebu Daily News Digital that the use of the song has been helping them get their message, on the dangers of illegal drugs use, get across their target audience.
Having the music played also eliminates boredom.
“Matan-aw nato almost all crimes karon are drug-related. Amo ning way to nga maka pa ingganyo sa mga molupyo sa mga sitio og barangay nga maminaw sa among campaign” she said.
(At present most of crimes committed are drug-related. This is a our way to entice sitio and barangay residents to listen to our campaign.)
The song called “Ang Gi Dili Maoy Lami” was composed by Senior Police Officer 1 (SPO1) Santiago Bimaluga, who won the jingle-making contest organized by the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) in 2016. It was a Cebuano translation of the novelty song “Kung Ikaw” performed by singer Lito Camo.
In 2017, the Link Jammers, which consisted four uniformed policemen assigned at the MCPO administrative office and a policewoman from PRO-7, recorded a video of the song.
Netizen Ramon Duterte reposted the close to five-minute video on his Facebook page on Sunday, March 24.
“Itong mga nagdaang araw, maraming napatay na mga inosente.. At ang pumapatay ay mga naka-droga! Kaya naman, PAALALA muna tayo sa mga DURUGISTA diyan!👊😎” Duterte posted on FB.
As of Wednesday, March 27, the video already generated 5, 300 views and 178 shares.
Villaro said they started using the song last week to attract attention during their Taphang activities which they organize in the city’s 27 barangays and to entertain the crowd at the same time.
They also use the song as background music during their Oplan Bandilo where in policemen would go around the city to share anti-drug flyers and the MCPO’s contact information./dcb
