CEBU CITY, Philippines — Law enforcers in Central Visayas are now putting heightened security measures following the gunbattle involving police and suspected communist-rebels in Victoria town in Samar on Thursday, March 28.

Police Brigadier General Debold Sinas, director of Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO – 7), said they received instructions from higher-ups to augment security measures in the region.
“We have to reinforce our security, especially in Negros Oriental. We met with (law enforcers) in Dumaguete City to discuss security preparations,” said Sinas.
He also said the Armed Forces of the Philippines Central Command (AFP – Centcom) advised their police counterparts to increase police visibility by conducting patrols in Central Visayas.
“Actually, we also received instructions from our Centcom commander (Lieutenant General Noel Clement) to magpatrolya sa gawas. Dili ta maghuwat naay insidente, naay musulod (nga rebelde). Para mapreempt ang mga rebelde,” Sinas said.
The entire Central Visayas region is placed under red-alert since Wednesday, March 27 in line with the founding anniversary of the New People’s Army and the start of the local campaign period tomorrow, Friday (March 29)./dbs
