CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Mambaling underpass project may already be opened to motorists in May.
Project Engineer Roy dela Cruz of the Department of Public Works and Highways in Central Visayas (DPWH-7) said that they are now working on the project’s final phase which they hope to complete before classes open in June.
The P638 million project started construction in 2017.
“Wala na man kaayoy uwan-uwan mao na nga lahos-lahos na gyod atong pagtiwas sa underpass (In hasn’t been raining the last few days that is why we are now working to hasten completion of the underpass project),” dela Cruz said.
Dela Cruz said that the final phase of the construction project will involve underground works to connect the southern and northern parts of the underpass’ tunnel.
Ongoing works also include the shock-proofing of the tunnel walls and the establishment of a drainage system that are set for completion by the end of the month.
Dela Cruz said that ones underground works are completed, they will already proceed with the pavement of its roads.
“Naninguha gyod mi nga mahuman na gyod ni nga underpass kay taod-taod na siya. Amo lang hangyo nga mohatag pag gamay nga pasensiya ang katawhan (We are doing our best to already complete the project. We are asking public to further extend their patience),” said Dela Cruz. /dcb
