CEBU CITY, Philippines — The first three floors of the new Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) will already be opened for use this month.

Hospital Administrator Kenneth Siasar said they are only waiting for the issuance of an accreditation from the Department of Health (DOH) before they can start their soft operation to cater to outpatients.

“No admissions for now,” Siasar told Cebu Daily News Digital.

But Siasar is confident that the hospital will already be fully operational before the year ends.

The hospital’s first level will be used as parking and laundry areas. This will also house the facility’s maintenance headquarters and the septage treatment plant.

Its emergency rooms are on the second floor of the building while the Outpatient Department is located on its third floor. Both floors have an area of 3, 500 square meters.

Even if the new hospital already opens its emergency and out patient departments, its other services will remain at the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) building that is located across the street.

The old CCMC was closed following the magnitude 7.2 earthquake that hit Cebu in October 2013. Hospital services were also transferred to the BFP building.

Construction of the 10-storey hospital building started in 2015.

Phase 1 of the project which is the construction of the structure worth P600 million was already completed last year. Works on its interior worth another P300 million started in August 2018.

The project’s third phase that will involve furnishing works and the acquisition of new equipment will start as soon as they get allocation from the Cebu City government, Siasar said./dcb
