PEZA to undergo facelift with the construction of Mahi by AppleOne Properties, Inc.

April 3, 2019 (Cebu, PHILIPPINES)—On March 20, property developer AppleOne Properties, Inc. (API) broke ground in the Mactan Export Zone (MEZ) 1, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu to signal the construction of the Philippines’ first integrated complex in an export processing zone.

Named Mahi by AppleOne Properties, Inc., the development will, in turn, make MEZ 1 the country’s first integrated ecozone. This is a new concept that will integrate industrial, commercial, and residential components. The announcement was made in the groundbreaking ceremony by Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) Director General, Brig. Gen. Charito Plaza.

Mahi will stand in an area of 7,500 square meters. Spaces are carefully allocated to the business and lifestyle sectors: 30% to IT facilities, 29% to common utility and facility, and 41% to hotel and retail spaces. This will translate to a 5-storey structure with IT capabilities, 2 floors of office spaces, 3 floors of commercial and retail spaces, a rooftop bar and restaurant, and a 180-room hotel that will be managed by Marriott International’s second biggest franchise, Fairfield Inn & Suites.

Brig. Gen. Plaza added that the shift to an ecozone will be a timely and welcome progress for PEZA. The Mactan ecozone will be followed by ecozones in Baguio, Pampanga, and Cavite.

Mahi is classified as a PEZA IT facility enterprise. It is stategically located 2 km from the Mactan Cebu International Airport, and 5 km from Cebu’s world-renowned beaches.

By way of this development, API is delivering another first. The company’s commitment to innovation is asserted by API President and CEO Ray Go Manigsaca, “AppleOne is about serving the unmet needs of our market.” AVP of Business Development Patrick Manigsaca adds, “We build based on the market demand.”

In an earlier interview, API disclosed it will launch five projects—including land acquisitions—in 2019 for approximately P8 billion.

The company is the developer of the first mixed use development in the region’s premier business district, AppleOne Equicom Tower in the Cebu Business Park, as well as the first gated condominium in the region, AppleOne Banawa Height. Its subsidiary AppleOne Mactan, Inc. is the developer of the forthcoming five-star Sheraton Cebu Mactan Resort and the first Sheraton-branded residence in Southeast Asia, The Residences at Sheraton Cebu Mactan Resort.
