Cebu City, Philippines — Police in tourist spots around Central Visayas are expected to get a boost with the donation of 36 mountain bikes from the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Senator Panfilo Lacson, the former PNP chief, came to Cebu on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, to donate equipment to the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO–7) that can help strengthen the police force around the province.

Aside from the bikes, also donated were around 700 bulletproof vests, 29 cellphones, 29 drones, and one vehicle. The donations were funded by the PNP Foundation.

PRO–7 Chief Brigadier General Debold Sinas said that the mountain bikes will be dispatched to areas with notable tourist attractions such as Oslob, Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City, Dumaguete City, Bohol, among others.

Sinas mentioned that he originally requested for 100 bicycles but the PNP Foundation could only allocate 36 for the Regional Police in Central Visayas. He plans to ask for more in the next cycle.

“The community is always on hand in supporting the police in whatever way they can,” said Lacson.

Lacson said that the PNP Foundation has already donated over P1.2 billion worth of equipment to PRO–7.

Sinas voiced his appreciation to Lacson, especially since it was the senator who personally donated it to the PRO–7.

“We’re happy that even in a small way, our needs were considered,” said Sinas. /bmjo
