CEBU CITY, Philippines — Over 321 runners will run for the first Sugat Fun Run 2019 on Sunday, April 7, with routes traversing across Minglanilla Town, southern Cebu.
This event, independent from the municipal government of Minglanilla’s Kabanhawan festival activities, serves as their kick-off for their fund raising.
Bienvinido Probadora, the event’s race director, said that the 30 km trail run, which is the highlight of the event, also serves as an advocacy since the routes include mountain barangays of Minglanilla, which offers a nice view.
The event also imposes a “leave-no-trace” policy, which includes the ban of plastic cups.
Participants are advised to bring their own water containers as there will be refilling stations along the routes.
Probadora believes that this helps raise social awareness to the environment, noting of the municipality’s beautiful landscapes and waterfalls.
Limited slots were given in order to maximize the logistics, security and the kits for the participants.
The categories of the event also include 3 kilometer, 5 kilometer and 10 kilometer.
“This is the first Sugat Fun Run. Hopefully ma adopt siya sa municipality,” said Probadora, hoping that the event will soon be adopted as one of the major events during the municipality’s Sugat Kabanhawan Festival.
The proceeds of the event will be used to fund scholars adopted by the Minglanilla Science High School Alumni Association./dbs
