CEBU CITY, Philippines — How would you like to celebrate your Moving Up Ceremony under the shade of multi-colored umbrellas?

On April 5, 2019, 129 students of Bulak National High School in Barangay Bulak, Dumanjug town experienced this unique ceremony in the presence of their parents and teachers .

The town of Dumanjug is located about 70 kilometers from Cebu City. It is known for its Bisnok (or Bisayang Manok) or charcoal-grilled native chicken.

High school teacher Ma. Victoria Escoreal said it was the idea of school principal Florenze Dalocanog to have multi-colored umbrellas as  protection and decoration for the ceremony.

Escoreal said the 129 students were requested to bring umbrellas in plain colors of blue, yellow, red, orange, green and pink.

There were students who brought along printed ones, which did not follow the instructions. But Escoreal said they still accommodated the “contributions” especially when it was the only umbrella that the student could bring.

The 129 umbrellas were arranged according to their respective colors with the primary colors of blue, yellow and red on the first three rows. The other colors were then arranged depending on the colors and shades.

Officers of the Supreme Student Government along with volunteer students led the putting up of the umbrellas, which were supervised by the teachers.

This has made the ceremony extra colorful and vibrant for teachers, students, parents and guests. The colors of the umbrellas along with the white and blue uniforms of the students made their Moving Up pictures pop and gave them a truly memorable experience.  / celr
