CEBU CITY, Philippines—The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in Central Visayas is holding a three-day regional skills competition to allow contenders to especially demonstrate their knowledge and skills in their respective field of expertise.
The 2019 Regional Skills Competition (RSC), which opened Wednesday, April 10, will enable TESDA-7 to prepare competitors for the Visayas-wide Zonal Skills Competition and the National Skills Competition.
Participants in the competition include young workers coming from different industries or enterprises, students/trainees and graduates of technical vocation schools and other institutions.
Competitors include 14 from Cebu, four from Negros Oriental, three from Bohol, and two from Siquijor. The competition will end on Friday, April 12.
The contenders will be competing in 15 trade areas: automobile technology, cooking, electronics, electrical installations, fashion technology, graphic design technology, information network cabling, IT network system administration, IT software solutions for business, mechatronics, refrigeration and air conditioning, restaurant service, welding technology, web design and development, and internet of things.
In a statement, TESDA-7 Regional Director Toni June Tamayo expressed confidence that the competition will draw the best from each of the contenders by demonstrating knowledge, skills, attitude and values in their respective field of expertise.
The RSC 2019 winners will have to go through the Zonal and the National Competition to represent the Philippines in the 13th ASEAN Skills Competition set on July 20.
It will also give participants a chance to show their skills during the World Skills Competition that will be held in Russia.
Rovina Buot won a gold medal in the 2017 Zonal Skills Competition and went on to become a 2018 Philippine delegate to the ASEAN Skills competition in Bangkok, Thailand. /dcb
